Beaux Arts Highlight: Bronze Owl Statue by Eliezer Weishoff

The Piece

This bronze owl, sculpted in 1998 by well-known Israeli artist Eliezer Weishoff, is one of a kind. The owl is the 18th piece created out of a total 99 in one of the artist’s limited edition collections. The collection is comprised of various animals figures, all cast in bronze with a colored patina finish. The number within the collection, as well as the artist’s name, is inscribed on each of the limited edition pieces. On the owl, you can find Weishoff’s name and “18/99” on the bottom of the owl’s right wing.

The Artist

Eliezer Weishoff, born in 1938 in Israel, is one of the country’s most celebrated and talented artists. His artwork, ranging from sculpture to oil painting and generally portraying landscapes and other environmental subjects, has granted Weishoff fame worldwide. His sculptures have been presented to Pope John Paul II and President Bill Clinton and are housed in famous buildings throughout Israel. One of his murals adorns the Ben Gurion Airport, while he has constructed monuments scattered throughout the country in Jerusalem, Rishon LeZion, and Tel Aviv, according to the artist’s official website, www.weishoff.com.
